The Assignment
To specify and supply appropriate Entrance Solutions to suit a range of applications throughout the Assisted Living care home product and thereby enable the client to provide living environments where residents feel safe and secure, whilst they are also able to access and navigate the properties easily and independently.
The Challenge
• Create an attractive, secure and comfortable, but accessible main entrance.
• Provide “hands free”, silent access to laundry and waste disposal rooms.
• Secure valuable mobility scooters in a locked, but highly accessible storage room.
The Solutions
To create the main entrance, Besam UK installed a pair of IKA heavy duty “in-head” swing door operators with special aluminium framed glazed swing doors that featured electric locking linked into the resident’s “key fob” and remote intercom access system. Maximum comfort in the entrance area was assured with the installation of a UniSlide ADS Frame sliding door solution behind the main entrance IKA swing doors to form a draught lobby.
Providing “hands free” silent access to laundry and waste disposal rooms was achieved with the installation of intelligent SW100 low energy operators. Throughout the project, low noise was a priority on all entrances, but with these doors situated directly under bedrooms their operation had to be silent, a task for which the modern electro-mechanical SW100 is ideal. The inherent low kinetic energy during operation of the SW100 also enables doors to be automated without the need for additional safety sensors, reducing both initial investment and longer term maintenance costs.
Mobility scooters are not only a valuable investment they also form an invaluable part of independent living for the elderly. The intelligent control, the sophisticated safety features and the silent operation of the SW100 were all harnessed to protect this independence by creating the ideal secure, accessible “drive in” external entrance, as well as the convenient internal door that provided residents with direct protected access to their homes.
Besam UK is also ensuring these facilities operate reliably at all times by providing preventative maintenance through its Performance Services programme.
